Shellie is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and a Dermatology Certified Nurse Practitioner in Kailua-Kona with over 30 years of experience in the fields of nursing and healthcare. She graduated top of her class as a Registered Nurse in 1986, obtained her undergraduate degree from Lewis and Clark State College in Idaho, and obtained her Doctorate of Nursing Practice at the University of Utah in 2014. Shellie has worked in many aspects of healthcare from hospital and homecare nursing, owning her own elderly care home and daycare, to hospice care and school nursing eventually operating Idaho's first school-based health clinic.
As a child growing up in Southern California with Vitiligo, Shellie experienced first hand how skin health can effect a person's life. As a result, Shellie chose to focus her advanced practice in the field of Dermatology so she could help others that struggle with skin diseases. Shellie has been practicing in the field of dermatology since 2012, both at a progressive North Idaho Clinic and here on the Big Island of Hawaii. She opened her own Dermatology Clinic, Island Dermatology LLC, in 2017.
Shellie has always been passionate about helping her patients achieve their best. Her medical practice is focused on treating the whole person and not just the health issue or problem, as well as educating and giving her patients the tools to keep themselves looking and feeling great. In her spare time, Shellie enjoys spending time with her loved ones and her two fur-babies. With a passion for the outdoors and traveling, she spends as much of her free time staying active and amazed by the natural world.
Emily is a Board-Certified Physician Associate with over 6 years of experience in the field of Dermatology. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and her Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Saint Catherine University in Saint Paul, Minnesota. During her Master's degree training, she also received a notable amount of Dermatology specific training.
Emily has experience in medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology. She has a passion for developing individualized treatment plans, tailored to meet her patients’ unique dermatologic needs and concerns. Emily’s goal is to help each of her patients achieve their desired outcomes, while assisting them on a lifelong journey to healthier, better functioning, more vibrant skin.
Emily grew up on a farm in southwest Minnesota. Her and her husband now live in Kailua-Kona where they enjoy paddling, diving, hiking, exploring the island on their motorcycle and staying involved with their local church community.
Lisa is a board certified Nurse Practitioner with over 23 years of experience in the field of healthcare. Lisa graduated Magna Cum Laude from Fresno State University in California with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2000. She practiced as a Registered Nurse in the hospital, family practice and Moh’s skin cancer surgery settings. She went on to receive her Master of Science/Family Nurse Practitioner degree from University of Phoenix, graduating at the top of her class in 2005. She practiced Family Medicine, Bio-Identical Hormone replacement Therapy, Travel Medicine and Aesthetics in Grass Valley, CA for 12 years before moving to Eagle River, AK. Lisa’s passion for Dermatology led her to complete a one year Post-Master’s Dermatology Nurse Practitioner Certification program from Florida Atlantic University, which brought her to practice at Anchorage Advance Dermatology.
Fulfilling a lifelong dream to move to Hawai'i, Lisa and her husband moved to the Big Island in 2022. She has two adult children who are pursing graduate education in the healthcare field. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and animals, working out at the gym, going to the beach and gardening.
Born and raised in Waimea on the island of Hawai'i, Talexi came to Island Dermatology LLC with an extensive Certified Nurse Assistant & Medical Assistant Background. Although her passion for the dermatology field is primarily focused on the health of the skin, patient care and one-on-one interaction is where Talexi finds her joy in her work, she says, "I feel that I am caring for family."
In her daily life on the island, she is a mother to a sweet little boy Finn (3) and enjoys going to the beach, fishing, hiking, hunting and going to local farmers markets.
Summer joined Island Dermatology in 2021 after working in healthcare since 2004. She started her journey in the medical field as a certified nursing assistant, providing hands-on-care and assisting in activities of daily living. Then, she transitioned to the administrative facet of healthcare where she gained knowledge in organization and coordination of various medical services and Human Resources. She is the point of contact for incoming referrals, however, you may also find her in the exam rooms as a medical assistant.
In her free time, Summer enjoys spending time with family and friends, going to the beach, hiking and DIY projects.
Maili is the Office Administrator at Island Dermatology. In this role, Maili uses her passion, understanding, and fifteen years of experience to create an engaging workplace that drives quality health care for all our patients.
Outside the office, you can find Maili soaking up the beautiful Hawaii sunsets, spending time with loved ones, and trying her best to catch some waves out surfing.
Brooke is the Office Coordinator at Island Dermatology. She is originally from Seattle, WA and has worked in the medical field for over 15 years, including different roles in both clinical and insurance settings. She has a passion for healthcare and helping people.
Brooke moved to beautiful Kailua-Kona back in June 2021 with her husband Nate and cat Zoe. She enjoys going to the beach, exploring the island, and spending time with family and friends.
